Natchez Under The Hill Canoe Trip
Your guide will meet you at a designated location in Natchez, Natchez Under the Hill. Your canoe trip begins about 4 miles north of Natchez and ends at the historic Natchez Under The Hill. A short drive will take you through downtown, past the scenic city cemetery and wind down to the base of the bluff near the site of an old cotton port. Once on the river you will be afforded a wonderful view of the elegant homes perched some 200 feet atop the bluffs. Other things to see on the way: remnants of ancient cypress trees that were cleared during the 1930's Giles Cut: a navigational shortening of the river by the Corps of Engineers and The Devil's Punchbowl, an ancient and mysterious cut in the bluff which was once used as a haven for river pirates, a concentration camp during the Civil War and the setting for Natchez author Greg Iles' book, The Devil's Punch Bowl. It is a short 2 hour trip that is all on the Mississippi River.
Depending on weather, river conditions and guest interest, a crossing to the west bank of the river can be made as well. Trip duration: 2 hours, possibly 3 if a river crossing is made. This includes shuttle, safety gear, dry bags and water.
$429.00 plus taxes including a 2 nights stay per couple
The Big River Trip
Full day trip on 10-12 beautiful miles of the Mississippi River. The day will start early with a meeting of your guide at 7:00 am, at Natchez Under the Hill, and a drive up river about 4 miles with your guide. Paddle back channels behind a chain of islands or cross the river to paddle to Coles Creek. Stop to explore sandbars and watch the barges go by. Lunch in the shade of the willows, cotton wood and sycamore. Get a spectacular view of Natchez and its homes perched high atop the Bluffs, a sight seen by few except barge hands, commercial fisherman and a handful of recreational users. See it the way Mark Twain saw it. Stop in to the Under the Hill Saloon for a celebratory drink. Total trip time is about 6 hours.
Price per couple includes snacks, meal, drinks during your canoe trip and 2 nights accommodations for 2 guests and full breakfast on the morning you do not have your trip. A hot biscuit, coffee and fruit can be provided for your car ride on the morning of your trip
